Órale Mag: What’s your name? Where are you from?
Damsel Adams: Hi, my name is Damsel Adams, I’m from Highland Park, Los Angeles.
Órale Mag: What can you tell us about your project “Damsel Adams”? How did you come up with the moniker?
Damsel Adams: The name Damsel Adams came about on a dark fall night over drinks with some friends in East LA. I wanted a name that represented my new project. I knew I wanted something beautifully romantic and haunting. The name had to describe the essence of the music I was creating in my bedroom with my micro Korg.
Órale Mag: How did you get into music?
Damsel Adams: I’ve been writing and singing since the age of 5. I was practically raised on Disney movies. I was a SAG actress and quit doing acting for music. I spent half the days singing, performing for friends and family. Long hours in the choir in middle school and high school, listening to my punk records. I started to develop a unique sound. Later a friend and I, along with my brother, started a band in high school. So yeah, music has always been a big part of my life.
Órale Mag: Tell us a little about your single, “Mouthful of Screams”?
Damsel Adams: As I was writing Mouthful of Screams, it took me on an emotional journey of what it’s like going through a bad breakup. It was a way of getting out all the hurt, anger, betrayal, and feeling better. So, make another wave baby!
Órale Mag: Are you looking to release an album or E.P. soon? And how has that process been for you?
Damsel Adams: Yes! Looking forward to releasing my E.P. in 2018. I’m working on releasing a few more singles and some live videos until then. The process has been an education. Now I’m doing it all on my own and to be honest it feels great not to be in a rush and to have complete control of my music. It has been wonderfully challenging.
Órale Mag: How has the experience been working in a studio? Have you been collaborating with any LA artists?
Damsel Adams: The studio is my second home. A great place to spend late nights with a great bottle of Pinot Noir, hang and get creative. I am currently working on a few tracks collaborating with Dj/Producer Holiday and about to do a collaboration with an awesome rap artist from Pomona, Bugsy Johnson. I’m really excited about it.
Órale Mag: What can we expect for Damsel in the upcoming year?
Damsel Adams: This coming year I will be releasing a new single called Crush. Expect more dancey, neon tracks that cater towards my love for the 80’s and everything synth. Also, I will be releasing some live videos by 2018.
Órale Mag: Anything you would like to add before we end the interview?
Damsel Adams: Shows TBD. Check out my Instagram for live updates @damseladamsmusic. Damsel Adams is just the beginning and I can’t wait to share all the awesome songs I have up my sleeve!
Órale Mag: Thank you for being here with us!
Damsel Adams: What a pleasure working with you and the gang!
